On Thursday, it was announced that Kyle Chisholm will race for the JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing team for the next two rounds of the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, the 2019 High Point Motocross and the 2019 WW Ranch Motocross, while Justin Hill recovers from a shoulder injury that he got in a practice crash earlier this week. For the team and Chisholm this is a perfect pairing; Chisholm has ties to Suzuki, worked out a deal with the brand to run an RM-Z450 as an independent rider starting at the Florida round of the series, and has stayed sharp on the bike since the end of Supercross. On Friday afternoon, we spent a few minutes with Chisholm and discusses the hurried way the “week-to-week” ride came to be. Always one to share the details and since the topic can be covered in only one question, the following text is Chisholm’s complete quote…

On Tuesday I woke up in the morning and loaded my practice bike up. I just got it all rebuilt because I had a plan to start racing next week, so I figured I had two good weeks of riding to get in. I went to the track and rode a little bit, but we got a bunch of rain so I didn’t ride much, and while I was riding J Bone called me. I called him back on the way home and he didn’t answer, but he got a hold of me at 3 PM on Tuesday. I thought he was calling because in part of my plans for starting next week, Suzuki was going to pull a stock bike from JGR so that I had another to have for the races. I talked to him for a little bit and then he told me what happened, that they needed a guy, and asked if I would like to do it. He knew about my deal, that I was racing the next weekend, so I asked when they wanted me to start and he told me I could this weekend if I wanted. So I was like, “Okay… [Laughs]”

We had to figure out how to make it work. He said that if I made it to North Carolina that we could test for a few days, or we could just show up and race. This was all at 3 PM. I looked online and there was a regional airport by my house, in St. Pete-Clearwater, and I got a flight for 7 PM that night. So yeah, at 3 PM I got the call, at 7 PM I was on the plane, at 8:30 PM I was in Charlotte, and I was riding the next day. I stayed with Chad and I got him to come ride with me for a little bit, his first time back.

It’s for sure this week and next week, but I don’t know the plan after that really. It is what it is, because I was trying to start next weekend anyway. I hope that it’s for longer, but also that Justin is okay and all of that. It’s a bummer any time that happens, because I have been in that position too many times and I get that part of it. But either way, I can only control my deal and I am pumped to be out there and with an awesome team like this because it’s a lot better than doing it on my own. We’ll take week to week and do my best, because I know I’m not as prepared as I want to be after only a day and a half on the bike. I just want to get out there, see where I am at, and build. I want to earn my ride with good results and maybe stay on longer.

Good get em Kyle. Great article again @swapmoto. This underdogs don’t get much light. And I get it – however just nice to see these guys getting some attention and second chances.
