2019 LAS VEGAS SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

It has been announced that fan-favorite riders Josh Grant and Chad Reed will not be on the starting line at the 2019 Las Vegas Supercross, the final round of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series, due to injuries.

Per a press release issued by Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing on Thursday morning, Josh Grant crashed while practicing in Southern California on Wednesday and suffered injuries to his leg and ribs. Since Grant was a fill-in rider for Aaron Plessinger, who is currently on the mend from a broken heel, and Justin Barcia recently announced that he would sit out the rest of the Supercross season to recover from a series of crashes, there will be no factory YZ450F on the track in Las Vegas. The full extent of Grant’s injuries was not disclosed in the press release, so it’s uncertain if he will be on the track for the start of the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship or if the team will have to hire another fill-in rider until Aaron Plessinger returns.

The confirmation that Chad Reed will not line up in Las Vegas came via a social media post by his wife, Ellie. Reed broke his scapula in the crash with Justin Brayton at the 2019 Seattle Supercross but was immediately hopeful that he could recover in time for the final round in order to reach his goal of 250 career Main Event starts in the 450 class. We spoke with Reed last weekend in New Jersey and at the time he made it clear that it was unlikely he would race because at the time he hadn’t been cleared by the doctors to even get back on the bike. JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing will have one 450 on the track in Las Vegas with Justin Hill.

Yamaha’s press release, including a quote from team manager Jim Perry, and Ellie Reed’s social media message are posted in full below…

Josh Grant to Miss Monster Energy AMA Supercross Season Finale in Las Vegas

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team’s Josh Grant will sit out this weekend’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross season finale after injuring his leg and ribs in a training crash Wednesday at the test track in Southern California.

The veteran Supercross racer was brought on board to fill in for Aaron Plessinger who was injured around the halfway mark of the season in Daytona. With Grant’s injury coming just prior to the final round, there will be no Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing riders participating in the season finale at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, the team will be there to hand out posters and answer questions for fans.

Jim Perry – “This was not the phone call you want to get, however, it is the sad part of the game. What a bummer for Josh Grant and the whole team. Josh has been making improvements each week with two strong top-10 finishes in the previous events. He has been working hard to finish the Supercross series on a high note and it’s a shame that he will be sidelined for the finale.”

#TBT to Jan this year. Miss seeing this guy in a helmet! He has been pissed off all week knowing he can’t race this weekend. His scapula was broken like a plate you drop on the floor and it’s in 6 pieces. The ligaments that join to those bones are not stable which make it FEEL like he has torn rotator cuff. He has raced with a broken scapula before and many other serious injuries. And he if he was in championship contention he would have showed up and rode. But with no major gains to make and only risk involved he made an adult decision to sit out. Tell you kid they can’t have something and now you see Chads face all week. The is now to create for the future and he wants to continue racing! Hoping with the help of some great sponsors and team we can start preparing early and come in ready for a successful season ! As the Supercross winds down this weekend really it’s now time to go to work! Success doesn’t just happen! It take preparation planning and time and that we haven’t had in years. It’s been a throw together in NOV/DEC. that’s not how you show up to win. We’ve played this game a long time. And we’re still all in. @crtwotwo ✌🏼✌🏼 Chad will be in Vegas with a huge crew of VIP’s this weekend! It’s been a great season with @jgrmx, our VIPS and 22 fans! Big love and thanks to all involved. 🤗❤️
