2019 MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

The first team for the 2019 Motocross of Nations has been announced, and of course, it’s from a country known for immaculate timepieces and punctuality. On Saturday afternoon in Lommel, Team Switzerland confirmed their three-rider roster for the international race will consist of Arnaud Tonus, Jeremy Seewer, and Valentin Guillod, with Mike Gweder and Loris Freidig to serve as reserve riders if necessary. The group will be managed by Daniel Zollinger, the Swiss Federation’s pick to lead the team for the next three years.

Switzerland has fielded this exact team in the past, most recently in 2017. It is a solid lineup, with Seewer and Tonus both scoring their share of podium results in the MXGP series this year. Guillod, meanwhile, has been a fixture at the smaller National championship events that run in European countries.

Seewer will be in the MXGP class, Tonus in the Open class, and Guillod in the MX2 class.

An interesting part of the announcement was the team’s decision to have two young riders in the reserves should they be necessary. Mike Gweder is currently ranked third overall in the 125 division of the EMX series, while Loris Freidig is a rider in the MX2 class.

The Swiss team has become one to watch for at recent runnings of the MXON, thanks to solid results logged by members of the 2019 team (fifth place overall classification in 2017, six place overall classification in 2016, fifth place overall classification in 2015). Their showing in 2018 did not bring great results, but it was not from a lack of effort: Killian Auberson attempted to ride despite a recently broken back and then suffered a crash that forced him to the sidelines for Sunday’s motos. Auberson recently shared that he was in the running for a spot on the team again this year but two big crashes this summer, once of which occurred in early July, will keep him off of the bike.

The 2019 Motocross of Nations will run at the famed Assen TT motorcycle venue on a specially built sand course, a first for the historical event. It will take place from September 27th to the 29th.
