2020 LORETTA LYNN’S ONE MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

New race season, new GoPro onboard videos! The camera company is back as a partner with the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and have uploaded footage filmed by Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo during 450 Moto Two at the 2020 Loretta Lynn’s One Motocross, the opening round of the summer series. Press play on the video and check out some of the things we noticed in AC’s riding…

A good gate pick is very important at Loretta Lynn’s, maybe more than anywhere else, because the fast right-hand sweeper can be very sketchy and tends to favor riders that line up to the right of the doghouse. Cianciarulo picked a spot four gates out from the right edge, which gave him a straight shot at the first turn and he started the race right next to Zach Osborne.

The track crew at The Ranch is known for re-prepping the first few lanes of the track before each moto, which creates a much more fair and safe start to the race, and Cianciarulo used wide lines on the “smooth” ground to take the early from Osborne. But the whole course wasn’t tuned up and within moments the pack funneled into the treacherous ruts that went the full length of certain sections. Many riders said that the track was one of the toughest that they’d ever ridden and after seeing the footpeg deep grooves, hooks, and holes from AC’s perspective, we totally believe it.

The big takeaway from this video was the low-speed, highly skilled approach that Cianciarulo used to get around. He expertly plotted his way through the 10 Commandments, the off-chamber right turn, the small rise, and then the deep left turn. As you can see, there was little chance for a rider to make a mid-lane line change and the path AC picked was the one he followed all the way through.

Cianciarulo didn’t seem to rev his engine too much, especially compared to some of the footage we saw from him in Supercross. Instead, he lugged the bike around and rolled on the gas when it was needed.

The leap from the big flyaway jump into the sand sweeper is burly.

It’s common for riders to get “creative” with their lines and the track markers late in the day, and on Lap Two, AC decided to follow a smoother rut that slalomed between two of the yellow stakes.

The video ended with a big get-off, but really, there was little indication that Cianciarulo was out of control until the moment he hit the deck. Although AC was able to get up unscathed, the bike slammed into the face of the next jump and did some damage to the left side, which forced him to DNF.
