2020 LORETTA LYNN’S TWO MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

Wet and wild. That’s how you could describe Timed Qualifying at the 2020 Loretta Lynn’s Two Motocross, round two of the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Rains late in the week soaked the Tennessee track, to the point that MX Sports eliminated one set of the sessions and the LCQ. With that, riders had just one long session to learn the lines in the slop and set a quick time. It proved to be an eventful morning, with some new names high in the running order and a stressful situation for a championship contender.

250 CLASS QUALIFYING REPORT

Dylan Ferrandis comes into this weekend as the rider to beat in the 250 Class. His Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha is outfitted with the red number plates, a reward for his rank at the top of the point standings, and the 1:57.179 he posted the single session was fastest lap of anyone in either class.

Shane McElrath was second on the time sheet. In addition to being the only other rider in the 1:57 range, McElrath’s best lap featured the same exact numbers as his Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha teammates, just in a different order, at 1:57.971.

Jeremy Martin was third overall in the 250 Class and the GEICO Honda rider’s 1:58.491 time was the only 1:58 by any rider in the small-bore division.

Justin Cooper made sure to get all three Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha bikes into the top-five, as his 1:59.158 was the fourth quickest overall.

Cameron McAdoo completed the top-five with a 2:00.041 on his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki.

450 CLASS QUALIFYING REPORT

Marvin Musquin is ready to show that his 51-week layoff from racing didn’t hurt his speed and the pace the Red Bull KTM rider had during the muddy session proved yes, he’s still fast. The 1:59.678 by Musquin was the best of the 450 Class.

Adam Cianciarulo has always been good at single-lap speed and a 1:59.703 by the Monster Energy Kawasaki put the 450 Class rookie second overall in the time sheets.

Soft, muddy conditions suit Justin Barcia’s style so it’s not too much of a shock that the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing rider was among the fastest in the 450 Class. A 2:00.376 put Barcia third overall.

Benny Bloss has said his intentions are to run in the top-10 on his privateer Husqvarna, something he did in with a solid finish in one Moto at the opening round and again in Qualifying at round two. A 2:00.695 time put Bloss fourth overall.

Joey Savatgy’s return to action last week was solid, but the JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing rider openly stated he expects to be in the top-five. Guess what? A 2:00.713 time put Savatgy fifth overall in the 450 Class.

It was a very, very eventful morning for Zach Osborne. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider comes into the weekend with the championship lead for his overall win a week ago and all eyes were on him when the A Group bikes rolled out for their single session. Except Osborne never joined them. A mechanical issue with the bike forced the team to disassemble the bike and fix a faulty part, which took the full duration of the session and he didn’t log a time. The top-10 riders in the championship are automatically seeded into the starting line up for the races, on the condition that they do at least one lap in practice. Because Osborne never “started” the session, he was moved to the B Group, where a 2:02.330 time put him 10th overall.
