UPDATE OCTOBER 20, 2020: Coldenhoff has shared more details of the injury in an Instagram post and confirmed that he will sit out the remaining five rounds of the season. “One tiny mistake, can have some big consequences. Unfortunately it’s part of our sport. Lost the feeling in my arms the first moments after my crash but luckily it came back again after several minutes. We got everything checked here in Herentals and it turned out I have two compression fractures in my back (vertebrae T3/T4),” he stated in the caption, which differed in detail from the team’s initial press release.

“Sad to say this season is over, as I felt stronger than ever. I will keep my head up and focus on my recovery from now. I have been here before and I know what to do to come back to the form I had,” he continued, hinting at the back injury he suffered in 2018. “I am looking with confident towards the future and I can’t wait to be behind the gate again. Thanks to the medical crew on track. They handled the situation really professional and took great care of me. Also thanks to Toon Claes and his team in Herentals. And of course my team, family, friends and everyone for the messages and support.”

Currently sixth overall in the MXGP championships standings with 375 points, Coldenhoff stands to be overtaken in rank by active riders including Gautier Paulin and Clement DeSalle.

The rush to the end of the 2020 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship has taken a toll on riders and the 2020 MXGP of Flanders-Belgium put another front-runner on the sidelines. Glenn Coldenhoff had a hard slam during Sunday’s Timed Qualifying session on the Lommel track, an incident that forced officials to throw a red flag so that medics could tend to the Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing rider. The serious crashes that Jeffrey Herlings and Arminas Jasikonis suffered at recent rounds have been on the minds of many, and while Coldenhoff was hurt, it’s thankfully not as bad as initially feared.

Per the post-race press release from the team, Coldenhoff suffered compression fractures to three vertebrae in his back but maintained feeling in his body and was tended to at a local hospital. Details of the injury are still a little light, but with the MXGP series set to run again at Lommel on Wednesday, more news should be known soon.

The statement from the team about Coldenhoff is posted in full below…

DIGA Procross Factory Juniors’ Isak Gifting has placed eighth overall at the MXGP of Flanders with a career-best finish of sixth in the opening moto. Following up his impressive result with a strong eighth in race two, the young Swede secured a deserved top-10 overall result at round 13 of the FIM Motocross World Championship. In what was a difficult day for Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing, Ivo Monticelli raced to 11th in race two following a first turn crash while Glenn Coldenhoff was unable to compete following a crash in qualifying.

Glenn Coldenhoff was absent from racing at round 13 of the FIM Motocross World Championship following a crash during timed practice. Falling heavily, the Dutchman was quickly transferred to a local hospital, where he remains overnight ahead of further examinations tomorrow. Thankfully experiencing no loss of sensation or movement in either his arms or legs, Glenn was diagnosed with compression fractures to three vertebrae.
