2020 SALT LAKE CITY ONE SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

UPDATE JUNE 6 2020 | Monster Energy Kawasaki has announced that Adam Cianciarulo will sit out the remaining rounds for the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series due to his crash at the Salt Lake City One Supercross. Per the team press release, further evaluation of Cianciarulo’s back injury revealed more damage than initially assumed and he’ll need the extra time to heal up before the start of the summer’s Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

Cianciarulo attempted to ride practice at the Salt Lake City Two Supercross on Wednesday but withdrew after the first Timed Qualifying session.

“This is not the news I was expecting to be sharing today, but after speaking to additional specialists and the team, it is in my best interest that I sit out the remainder of the supercross season,” he stated in the press release. “This is a tough pill to swallow as I was really excited to get back to racing here in Salt Lake City, but I have to be smart with what my body is telling me. For now, I will focus on my recovery and do everything in my power to make sure I am ready to go in July for the start of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. I want to thank the entire Monster Energy Kawasaki team for their unwavering support through this tough time. We will be back and stronger than ever.”

Adam Cianciarulo has posted an update following the crash and run-in with other riders he had during the 450 Main Event at the 2020 Salt Lake City One Supercross. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider made a mistake in the second rhythm section, went down, and had his upper body accidentally run over by Cooper Webb. After some time with the trackside medics, AC was able to remount his bike and rode out of the stadium, which was considered a good sign for all.

“You guys saw me squirrel out and crash in that rhythm section. Cooper ran into me pretty good. He didn’t have anywhere to go. Not his fault, obviously. But it got me in the back substantially and I just wasn’t able to finish. I didn’t have it in me,” stated AC in an Instagram story a few hours after the race.

Cianciarulo was checked out onsite by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit staff and cleared of any broken bones or internal damage, but says he’s still very sore from the contact. “It’s pretty painful at the moment, but I got checked out and all is well internally and no broken bones. That’s good,” he shared from the couch of his month-long rental.

In true AC form, he expressed some frustration with himself for crashing and said that he’ll look to overcome making the same mistakes in the future through the rest of the post. “I’m tired of hitting the ground. I was just a little bit too eager, being in such a good position so early, not having raced in a while… But it’s the same for everybody and I have to take accountability for that. I have to be better,” he noted. “It’s something I’ve always had to reign in a bit. I get excited and I really want it. We’ll fix that. First one is out of the way and it’s only up from here.”

If Cianciarulo will be able to push past the pain in the short time between races and line up Wednesday for the second race of the SLC SX program remains to be determined.
