2020 ST. LOUIS SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

JGRMX/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing post-race press release from the 2020 St. Louis Supercross included a note on Fredrik Noren following his sudden withdrawal. In the team press release and a separate social media post by Noren, it was explained that in 450 Heat Race Two Noren over-shot a triple in one of the rhythm lanes, landed in the transition between jumps, and felt instant pain in his lower leg.

After a trip to the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit and then the local hospital, it was determined that Noren had injured his ankle and will have to sit out upcoming races so that it can heal. Oddly enough, the full extent of the injury wasn’t disclosed, but the damage doesn’t seem too bad because Noren was somewhat smiling in the team’s social post.

This is bad not only for Noren, but the JGRMX team as a whole because it means that both of the team’s full-time 450 riders are out with ankle injuries. Joey Savatgy is currently on the mend from a badly broken ankle from the 2019 AUS-X Open Supercross in November; he’s hopeful to race before the end of the 2020 Supercross season. As for Noren, we will have to wait for further word.

In the meantime, Jimmy Decotis will race the 2020 Anaheim Two Supercross in the 450 class, but it remains to be heard if the team will keep him on the big bike longer than their initial three-round plans, as he has the 250 East Coast region to prepare for.

Fredrik Noren was running directly behind his JGR teammate Decotis in the second heat race, both riders in a direct-transfer position, when on lap five the Swedish rider had a small miscalculation that unfortunately took him out of the race, and the evening, on a night he was looking for a strong finish.

The excerpt from the team press release, and the social media posts, and shared below…

“I was very excited coming into the weekend and had a good practice week,” said Noren. “I was running comfortably in a transfer spot with a few laps left to go when I slightly overshot a triple in a rhythm section. When I landed I felt a snap in my leg. I had to pull off and have come to find out that I’ve injured my ankle. At this point, I’m unsure of the recovery but hoping for the best so that I can be back at the races soon.”

Albrecht added, “Freddie was feeling better and more relaxed all day. He was in a good spot to make the main event and made a small mistake over-jumping and injuring his lower leg. Bummed for him as he has been working hard on his SX skills. He will be back but we’re not sure of when his return will be yet.”
