2021 HOUSTON THREE SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

The Timed Qualifying sessions at the 2021 Houston Three Supercross were tough. An all-new track has been built on the floor of NRG Stadium for the third round of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross Series, and it’s turned out to be a very challenging course that leaves little room for rider error. A handful of Main Event-caliber riders hit the deck during the afternoon sessions, some more serious than others, but a few big names (Hampshire/Forkner/Friese) will be absent from the starting line tonight.

The point and shoot flow and technical obstacles on the track have created some slightly longer laps, but to no surprise, the rider’s best times are within fractions of a second of each other.

250 EAST COAST REGION | QUALIFYING REPORT

Christian Craig continues to control the 250 East Coast region. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider figured out the fast line around the track during the first Timed Qualifying session, and his 48.181 lap ended up being the best of any rider in the small-bore class all afternoon.

Jett Lawrence had an eventful final Timed Qualifying on the track. The Team Honda HRC rider put in his hot lap early (a 48.300) and looked like he would go for an even-better time until a mistake in the whoops sent him to the shoulder-first. He quickly got up and rode out of the stadium, which caused some concern, but we’ve learned that the bike was just too bent up to continue and that he was happy with his time.

Colt Nichols has been near the top of the class since the start of the season. A 48.641 time put the Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rider third overall.

RJ Hampshire and Austin Forkner will sit out Houston Three after hard crashes of their own. Hampshire came into the weekend battered and bruised but was hopeful he’d push pain the pain for the race. Unfortunately, another get-off this morning forced the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider to call it a day. Forkner’s crash occurred after he clipped the landing in a 3-3-3 rhythm section and went over the bars of his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki; he walked out of the stadium with a shoulder injury of some sort.

450 CLASS | QUALIFYING REPORT

Is Eli Tomac about to go on a run? The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider was the fastest rider of all at Houston Three with a 47.432 time in the final Timed Qualifying session. It was a big improvement from his lap in the first outing: Tomac managed to shave nearly two seconds off his best lap.

Ken Roczen has been one of the top riders through the first three races. In fact, the Team Honda HRC rider would have been the incoming championship leader if not for the four-point penalty on Tuesday. Roczen will be a factor tonight, as his 47.579 time was the second-fastest in the 450 Class.

Could Adam Cianciarulo continue the trend of different Main Event winners tonight? The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider looks quick, and a 47.652 time put him third overall.

Zach Osborne was the fourth and final rider in the field to put in a 47-second time; the exact lap by the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider was a 47.870.
