The fourth round of the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship is officially underway, as riders spent Saturday morning logging laps during qualifying at the 2023 High Point Motocross. Following some rain in the previous days, the course looked to challenge racers with it’s slippery base but helped produce incredibly close lap times in both classes. Just fractions of a second split the front-runners in the 250MX and 450MX Class on the qualifying sheets, which ratcheted up the anticipation for today’s racing even more. Here’s a look at the fastest lap times and results…

Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha rookie Haiden Deegan held the advantage early at High Point. The fan favorite logged a 2:20.801, the fastest lap in the first session of timed-qualifying. Thanks to a slower course in the second session, due to the track conditions, Haiden’s lap time held its position at the top of the time sheets.

Privateer Matti Jorgensen was next on the time sheets, as his fast lap in the B practice session rocketed him up to second fastest overall. With muddy conditions, the earlier practice sessions seemed to produce the best lap times, as Matti’s 2:21.018 came from the second session of riding.

Despite suffering a mechanical failure in the first session of timed-qualifying, Hunter Lawrence made his way to the top of the leaderboards in the final practice. The current championship points-leader was one of the few riders to log a fast lap in the second session, as his 2:21.734 jumped him into third place overall.

Justin Cooper went down hard late in the final session of qualifying and was slow together up. The Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha veteran was ultimately attended to by the Alpinestars medical team and helped off track.

Ken Roczen’s return to racing was off to a great start, as the HEP/Progressive/Suzuki rider logged the fastest lap time in the first session of riding. Ken’s 2:21.066 would remain the fastest lap time, as the course was significantly slower in the second and final session of qualifying.

Jett Lawrence was the lone rider to better his lap time in the second session of timed-qualifying, as the current championship points-leader jumped to second place on the time sheets with a 2:23.675 on the very last lap.

ClubMX/FXR/Yamaha’s Garrett Marchbanks set the next best lap time, a 2:24.214. That lap time was logged during the first session of riding and was the second best time until Jett’s final lap.
