2023 OAKLAND SUPERCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

The Monster Energy Supercross Championship continued its seventeen round schedule with a trip to California’s Bay Area for the 2023 Oakland Supercross. A challenging track kept riders on edge and helped dozens of battles shape up through the Main Events, which were won by Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence.

250 Heat One

The first heat of the night was officially underway, as Maximus Vohland was off to the early lead with Rj Hampshire trailing. Mitchell Harrison got a great start and sat in third place on the opening lap, but Matt Moss made a pass at the end of the lap to pick up the position. Hampshire was challenging Vohland for the race lead after a few laps and went for the pass with an inside line after the whoops.

Maximus Vohland fired right back and took Hampshire wide to retake the lead, but Rj ultimately made a pass for the lead stick after the pair shared a few clean passes. Meanwhile, Levi Kitchen made his way into a transfer position after a bad start. Kitchen ultimately made his way up to fourth place before taking the checkered flag.

After taking the race lead, Rj Hampshire built himself a 7-second lead over Vohland before taking the heat race win.

250 Heat Two

The second 250SX heat race was off and Robbie Wageman was off to the early lead with Cameron McAdoo just behind. Enzo Lopes sat in third place early, but Jett Lawrence made a quick pass for the position before making a minor mistake that held himself and Enzo up momentarily.

Cameron McAdoo made a pass on Wageman for the race lead and began building up a lead, but Jett managed to not only pass into second place but also close-in on Cameron on the second lap. Enzo Lopes passed Wageman for third and Pierce Brown then passed into fourth place.

Jett Lawrence then challenged McAdoo for the race lead, but failed to make a pass in his first attempts. Jett continued to work on completing a pass for the race lead, and ultimately did so after a faster run through the whoops. Cameron McAdoo attempted to fire back with a run towards the inside but wasn’t close enough.

Pierce Brown then passed Enzo Lopes late in the heat and picked up third place. Jett Lawrence took the heat race win just ahead of McAdoo.

250 LCQ

As the 250SX LCQ left the gate, Julien Benek was off to the early lead with Luke Kalaitzian trailing. Dylan Walsh made a quick pass on Luke for second place on the opening lap. Max Miller went down on the opening lap while running in fourth place, dropping him well outside of a transfer position.

Dylan Walsh then went after Benek and made the pass after a better line through the whoops. Amerine made a pass on Rj Wageman to take over the final transfer position. Late in the race, Luke Kalaitzian made a mistake and dropped back. Hunter Schlosser made a pass on Wageman to secure fourth place.

With two laps to go, Amerine went down while in third place and was slow to remount. Devin Harriman then picked up a transfer position. On the final lap, Schlosser went down and allowed Sanford to pass into third place. Dylan Walsh took the LCQ win.

250 Main Event

The 250 Main Event was off as Rj Hampshire led the field into the second corner with Cameron McAdoo and Jett Lawrence just behind. Enzo Lopes went off track on the first lap after nearly sliding out, dropping him from sixth to 10th place. Pierce Brown and Maximus Vohland made some good passes on the opening lap, as they climbed up to fourth and fifth place.

Matt Moss made a mistake on the second lap, falling from sixth place to last. Up front, Rj Hampshire continued to lead and had a second and a half on second place. Jett Lawrence made the pass on McAdoo through the whoops to pick up second place, just before Pierce Brown reeled-in the pair.

Rj Hampshire went down while leading after sliding out, dropping him to third place. Jett Lawrence now held the race lead over Cameron McAdoo and the rest of the field. Derek Kelly went down hard, ending his race. Rj Hampshire passed McAdoo just a lap after giving up the race lead.

Meanwhile, Levi Kitchen was making moves toward the front, as he passed Vohland for fifth place. A lap later, Enzo Lopes was on Vohland’s rear wheel and ended up with the position after a better pass through the whoops.

Late in the race, Pierce Brown was challenging Cameron McAdoo for third place. Pierce dove inside before the the double jump and took the position away from Cameron. However, McAdoo got a better drive through the first set of whoops and took Brown wide and out to hold onto third place.

Pierce Brown remounted in fifth place and immediately began pressuring Kitchen. Meanwhile, Jett Lawrence continued to lead and now held a 10-second cushion over Hampshire. With one lap to go, Pierce Brown took Levi Kitchen wide and took fourth place. Though, moments later Pierce slid-out on the straight away and dropped back to fifth. Jett Lawrence took the win in Oakland after an impressive ride.

450 Heat One

The first 450SX race of the night was underway, as Ken Roczen led heat one into the second corner. Jason Anderson was just behind Roczen, but had Justin Barcia alongside. Jason Anderson immediately broke away from Barcia and went after Roczen and the lead.

Adam Cianciarulo sat in fourth place early-on, while Christian Craig worked his way into fifth place after a few laps. While giving chase to Roczen, Anderson mis-timed a rhythm and allowed Justin Barcia to close-in. While running in seventh place and battling with Justin Cooper, Dean Wilson slid-out before the whoops and dropped back to ninth place.

Up front, Jason Anderson continued to close-in on Roczen but then make minor mistakes and loose time. On the final lap, Jason looked inside of Roczen after the whoops but played nice and settled for second. Ken Roczen took the heat race win after leading the entire race.

450 Heat Two

Cooper Webb led the second 450SX heat into the second corner after a great start. Aaron Plessinger was just behind in second place, while Chase Sexton trailed. Eli Tomac made some quick passes on the opening lap to secure fourth place.

Chase Sexton made a pass on Plessinger in the turn before the finish line and completed it a few sections later, as Plessinger attempted to repass for second. Eli Tomac then blitzed past Plessinger through the first set of whoops to take third place.

A few laps later, Sexton got off-balanced in the whoops and allowed Tomac to close even more, making it a three rider battle for the lead. Cooper Webb made a mistake in the whoops, allowing Sexton to take the lead for split second, but Eli Tomac went from third to first in the matter of two sections. Eli went inside before the dragons-back to take positions from both Sexton and Webb.

Eli Tomac took the heat race victory after an impressive charge to the front.

450 LCQ

Kevin Moranz was off to the early lead in the 450SX LCQ but Cade Clason was just behind and pressuring. Cade went inside after the whoops to take over the race lead on the opening lap. Kyle Chisholm sat in third place after Freddie Noren went off track in the whoops.

Freddie then worked to get back into a transfer position after his mistake, as he pressured Grant Harlan for fourth place. Freddie ultimately made the pass for fourth place through the rhythm lane.

Cade Clason took the LCQ win ahead of Kyle Chisholm after a seemingly perfect race.

450 Main Event

The gate was down and the 450SX Main Event was off, as Chase Sexton was off to the early lead with Cooper Webb and Eli Tomac trailing. Ken Roczen sat in fourth but had Jason Anderson pressuring early. Eli Tomac cut inside of Webb before the whoops to take over second place on the opening lap.

Cooper Webb then uncorked a double over table in to the final rhythm section in an attempt to stay close to Tomac. Jason Anderson made the pass on Roczen for fourth place after just a lap of trailing. Back in the pack, Justin Barcia took Colt Nichols wide and off the track to claim tenth place.

Aaron Plessinger then passed Roczen for fifth place before going after Anderson. Up front, Chase Sexton continued to lead Eli Tomac, but the pair put some time on Cooper Webb and the rest of the field. Justin Barcia continued to cause mayhem as he worked his way through the field, as he took Cianciarulo wide and down before the dragons-back for seventh place.

Back in the pack, Dean Wilson and Colt Nichols battled over 11th place, where Colt ultimately made the pass. Jason Anderson made a mistake and fell back to sixth place, allowing Justin Barcia to close-in. Though, Jason upped his pace and put some time between himself and Barcia.

While leading, Chase Sexton nearly went down over the dragons-back but managed to save it. Though, just a few sections later he lost the front-end and went down, allowing Eli Tomac to take the race lead. Back in the field, Adam Cianciarulo went down again and dropped back to 14th place.

Jason Anderson and Justin Barcia made passes on Ken Roczen to take over fifth and sixth place. A few laps later, Christian Craig passed Ken Roczen. Up front, Cooper Webb had reeled-in Sexton and was pressuring for second place. After busting out that quad-in, Cooper Webb pulled alongside and then in front of Sexton as they exited the following corner to take over second place.

On the final lap, Eli Tomac made a mistake and went off track, which allowed Webb to close-in. Cooper Webb got right on Tomac’s rear wheel but ran out of time, as Eli Tomac took the victory in Oakland.
