2024 Arlington Supercross Practice and Qualifying Report

The track inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, greeted riders with a soft racing surface that is sure to present a challenging circuit, come race time. The whoops, especially, rutted up during the afternoon practice sessions and will likely become “jumpers” by race time. Changing conditions throughout the afternoon saw some surprise qualifiers from the B and C qualifying sessions, giving some new riders some time in the spotlight. For instance, after the second 450 C session, Smartop/Motoconcepts/Honda teammates Mitchell Oldenburg and Carson Mumford, sat first and third, respectively, in the overall 450 sessions before the second 450 A session took to the track.

250

As the riders circulated the track during the first timed qualifying session, it was a game of cat and mouse between Max Anstie, Cameron McAdoo, and Austin Forker, as the three riders each took turns at the top of the charts. In the end, though, it was Seth Hammaker who turned in the quickest overall time in the final timed session aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki, as the track broke in better and yielded faster overall times than the first. Points leader Forkner was close behind, while Detroit’s quickest qualifier, Pierce Brown, was third fastest overall. All of the top times came from the second session.

450

In the premier division, Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Justin Cooper was the fastest of the bunch, putting his qualifying sprint speed to good use as he so often does. As mentioned before, the track got faster in the second session, apparent as Group C riders Oldenburd and Mumford took over at the top before the final Group A sessions. Chase Sexton and Eli Tomac jumped out with some quick laps early in the second session, but just as the clock ran out, Jett Lawrence turned in a burner on his final lap and topped the charts.
