2025 Yamaha YZ250F In Depth | 250 MX Shootout

The 2025 SML 250 MX Shootout has come to a close, and our wrap-up video revealed the details about our overall winner. Now, it is time to visit each bike in detail and showcase the insight and opinions of our test riders. The 2024 Yamaha YZ250F earned Bike of the Year Honors and successfully defended its crown in 2025. The new bike boasts some suspension changes that include a new rear shock linkage, a softer shock spring, and revised internal valving on both ends. Realistically, the Yamaha’s massively powerful engine is without rival in the 250 class, and having the best-in-class suspension certainly doesn’t hurt, either! The YZ250F earned four of six first-place votes, and again, it is the SML 250 Bike of the Year.
