AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series | LACR | Round Five

The final round of the 2019 AMSOIL West Coast Open is approaching, as the fifth round of the Swapmoto race series took place last weekend, at LACR. Thanks to some slight showers in the early morning of race day, Los Angeles County Raceway was in absolute perfect condition for a day of racing. With cloud coverage providing some excellent weather conditions and hundreds of racers eager to go racing, round five of the AMSOIL West Coast Open race series was one for the books. Thanks to all who attended, we hope to see you all at Glen Helen on June second for the series finale!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; the Open85-150F/Supermini class holds some of the most action-packed racing on the series. With nearly twenty talented youngsters lined up to do battle aboard their screaming superminis, it was obvious that the class would hold some intense moments. Though, despite the speedy competition, Blake Gardner managed to dominate the Supermini class at round five of the AMSOIL West Coast Open race series. Blake’s triumph didn’t stop in the Supermini class, as the youngster out of Acton, CA went on to sweep the Novice 250F class aboard his 125cc. When the dust settled, Blake left having earned four more Moto wins to his name and two overall class victories, well done!

The most impressive ride of the day went to long-time race series attendee Luke Kalaitzian, as he dominated every race he contended in. The Sun Valley, CA resident is well known at the series for his mastering skills aboard a 125cc two-stroke, and again he displayed those very skills at round five of the AMSOIL West Coast Open race series. After sweeping the 125cc Open class, Luke and his 125cc went up against the Intermediate 250F and School Boy (125/250F) classes; where he kept his perfect streak going and earned four more Moto wins on the day. With six dominating wins and three overall class victories, there is no doubt in our mind that Luke put down some of the fastest lap times of the day, and maybe even the fastest.

As for the little guys, the 65cc Motos held some exciting moments. Though, much like the big-bike classes; one racer seemed to have the upper hand on the rest of the competition. After some great battles, Jesse James Shedden raced his number-09 machine up to the front and snagged the win in both Motos of the 9-11 years 65cc class. Following his success in the age group class, Jesse dealt with some pressure from Johnny Webb but was able to sweep the Open 65cc class as well. With four dominating Moto wins on the day, we’d say Jesse had a pretty solid round five of the AMSOIL Swapmoto West Coast Open race series.
