Round two of the AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series Fall Classic went down last weekend at Milestone MX, and we were pumped to see a familiar face on the starting line again. Dallas Dunn raced a couple of the Vet classes and had a great day at the races with his friends and family.

We’ve seen you at our races before but it’s been a while, so what brings you back?

Usually, all your guys’ races are held on my work weekends, but these ones seem to be on my off weekends. So I’m here and this is my third ride back, I’ve been off for eight weeks.

Eight weeks of work or eight weeks of injury?

Injury, I had a sprained wrist and a sprained ankle.

That was done on a bicycle right?

I’m following you on Instagram, it looks like you’re a super talented mountain bike and BMX guy too, so what are your roots there?

I’ve been riding BMX my whole life. I didn’t start out racing or anything, but just freestyle. Then I used to ride motocross when I was younger and then I had about a 14-year gap until November last year I got a bike again. So now, I’ve been full-blown into moto. Then mountain bikes I’ve only ridden a few times until recently I got my own bike now. I love mountain bikes.

So 14 years away, why did you quit and what brought you back?

I kind of was burnt out, I think I quit when I was 19. Then financial stuff, just not being able to afford a bike. Then I was able to sell an Instagram account that I had built up for enough money to get back into moto. I had enough to get a 2014 RM-Z and gear to start riding again. I only had that bike for 2 months and then I wanted a new bike.

So what is it you do during the day?

I’m a heavy equipment operator at a cement plant.

Do you operate the gigantic machinery? I’ve seen some pictures.

Yeah, we mine limestone. So we have really big equipment and it’s super fun. It can have its days like any job, but for the most part, I like going to work.

You and your boy always seem to be having a great time. Any moto plans?

He is racing BMX, but we haven’t taken it too serious. We’ll be at the track and he will still be wanting to play in the dirt and chase butterflies, but I think next year we are going to do more state races. Take it a little more serious, but he’s got a Yamaha TT-R50 which he likes to ride. We’re not going to get too crazy with moto for him. I don’t really want him to race, but just have fun riding.

Still provides some good quality dad/son time?

Yeah, I get five days off every other week, so I have him om all my days off. We’re never home during those days, we’re always trying to go out and do something. We go to the mountains, ride BMX, go on bike rides, fishing, whatever.

You’re also a very talented photographer. How did you get into that?

I used to be into cars and I always wanted to take photos of my cars, so I ended up getting a DSLR in 2013. So I was doing a lot of automotive photography while I was learning and I’ve just tried getting into all aspects of photography and now moto photography has been really fun. It’s just nonstop. I was doing a lot of landscape stuff but lately, it’s just been moto.

What is it about racing moto that you love?

I love the adrenaline rush of racing, and riding and learning! It’s a learning experience every time I ride my bike, so that’s always cool. It’s something you love and it’s hard to turn it off.
