Class Raced: Women’s Open

Jaymie Hajewski is a familiar face at the AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series as she regularly makes the drive from her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, to race with us. Usually accompanied by her dad John, Jaymie usually runs up from in the Women’s Open class at every track we visit.

We have been trying to grow our Women’s Class participation and today we have 11 entrants! How do you think we can grow the class even more?

Just keep holding races and post about it. Invite more girls to come. Send them a DM on social media.

Are you saying to slide into their DMs?

Yes. (Laughs)

OK, so what led you to race motocross?

When I was four years old I started racing BMX and I ended up racing all across the country and around the world. Then one day I said, “You know what? I want to do something more extreme.” My brother was racing motocross already and I wanted to join him. So my first race was on a 110 right here at Glen Helen! (Laughs) Then I got a 65 it just took off from there. I have been racing ever since. I broke both of my legs but I kept going.

What!? Two broken femurs?

Yeah I broke both of my femurs. Back to back, six months apart. That set me back for a while but I got back on a bike and I couldn’t stay away from it! I still have a rod and six screws in my leg and I am still going. I am un the gym every day training for motocross. Can’t stay away!

So what is it about motocross that you love so much?

I just love the adrenaline rush. I just love anything extreme. I love to go fast and do what I love. The feeling I get when I get on the bike is indescribable. It’s awesome.

It seems like there are more girls riding motocross than ever. At the track on practice day, you see a few girls every time…

Yeah, I think girls are empowering and encouraging each other. It’s not about what level you are at, it’s just getting out there and taking part. Yes there are fast racers, yes there are people who compete, but you can start at any level and take it as far as you want to. There’s no pressure. I feel like you can do whatever you set your mind to with commitment and consistency.

We always see your dad with you. What role does he play?

My dad is my right-hand man. He does my starting gate, he helps me clean and prep my bike. He preps all of my stuff; my bike, my gear, my boots. Shout out to my pops!

Was he a racer before? Does he give good advice?

Yeah, he was a desert racer back in the day. Once he had kids he was all for us and quit riding. He puts everything and more into my racing and he loves it just as much as I do and when I am down he gets me back up and says this is why we are racing and this is what we do. We have been at this for about 18 years and it is great.

Tell me about 362 Media.

Our goal is to get a bunch of girls together to ride and race and empower and encourage women to compete. Women in WMX went away because there weren’t many girls showing up to race. So many races put us at a lower level because there aren’t enough of us. We want to inspire other girls to come out and compete and get this girl thing going. Don’t forget the fun part, but still be aggressive. There are lots of girls who can take it far!

Away from the track, what do you do?

I am a bartender and waitress. I am in the gym seven days a week. At 4:00 a.m. I go on a bike ride every morning for 10-12 miles. I have trained some friends in the gym but I’m too busy to take that seriously.

How far do you want to take motocross?

I actually think I have taken it pretty far. I have done some WMX Nationals and raced at some new tracks I never visited before. I am content where I am at in racing. I just want to take it with the flow and possibly be an ambassador for a brand or something like that later on.

Love the Hajewski’s! A dedicated racing family for sure. Little Bro Justin was on our BMX team. Jaymie also snowboards quite well. And we have a blast meeting up on “Wake Wednesday’s” at Lake Mead Marina, a weekly promotion put on by the Marina and Mastercraft boats. You wakeboard and wakesurf for free! And get Hot Dogs and beer!
