AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series | Perris Raceway | Round Two

After a brief intermission, while we hosted the 2019 Trans Am Vet Classic, the AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series is back underway, as round two of the West Coast Open series took place at Perris Raceway, this past Sunday. Following months of scattered storms and cold temperatures, riders were eager to finally get racing under the SoCal sun; as round two of the West Coast Open consisted of blue skies and sunshine. Over 500 racers, accompanied by their friends and family, filtered through Perris Raceway’s gates, and it’s easy to say we haven’t seen the facility so packed. With stacked gates and a total of 33 different classes, the second round of the AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series was nothing shy of eventful. Thank you to all who joined us for an exciting day of racing!

Amongst the hundreds of racers at round two of AMSOIL West Coast Open series was Factory Connection GEICO Honda’s Hunter Lawerence. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the former MXGP MX2 class contender made the move to America and joined the GEICO Honda team for 2019. Unfortunately, an injury side-lined Hunter from competing in the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross season. However, the state-side rookie is back on the bike and joined us at Perris Raceway for a fun day of racing. After four swift motos, Hunter Lawrence not only pocketed his first concrete starts but also snagged his first victories in America, as he dominated the Pro 250F and Pro Open(125-450) classes. Maybe we’ll see more of the GEICO Honda rider before the 2019 Pro Motocross season begins…

The intermediate and Schoolboy classes undoubtedly held some of the best racing at the second round of the AMSOIL West Coast Open series, as 15 racers lined the gates in the Schoolboy (125/250F) class alone. Though, despite the talented field of racers, Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s amateur racer Jarrett Frye was the apparent rider to beat. The Maryland native put together one of the most dominating performances of the day, as he swept the 250F Intermediate, 450F Intermediate, and School Boy (125/250F) classes. Compared to his competition, Frye appeared to be on another level after gapping the field and winning each of his six motos.

One of the largest classes at round two of the AMSOIL West Coast Open series was the Open 85-150F/Supermini class, as 22 skilled youngsters lined the gates. Throughout the battles from gate drop to the checkered flag, Sage Lewis was able to hold off all 21 other racers and snag both moto one and moto two wins. However, his successful day at the racers didn’t end there, as Sage managed to put together another two perfect races and sweep the Big Wheel Open 85/150F class. After four moto wins on the day and two overall class victories, we think it’s safe to say Sage Lewis was pretty stoked with his day at the racers. Solid ride, Sage!
