An Afternoon With Tom

Tom White’s Early Years of Motocross Museum

In early 2017 Tom White invited me to take a private tour of his Early Years of Motocross Museum with him. Actually, he kind of guilted me into it. “Hey buddy, I don’t have much time left, get your butt over here,” he joked. Through the years, Tom had invited me to see his collection of motorcycles many times, but for one reason or another, I was never able to make it.

The afternoon I spent with Tom checking out his massive collection was amazing. His knowledge about every bike and some of the stories he had about acquiring them were priceless. I am certainly glad that I finally made the time to visit.

A few days before my trip to see the museum, I had taken delivery of the new GoPro Karma Drone and Karma Grip stabilizer. I decided to give the stabilizer and the new GoPro Hero6 a try as I followed Tom around the property. Days later, as I tried out the Karma Drone for the first time, it malfunctioned and flew higher and higher, until I couldn’t see it any longer and the digital display on the controller turned to pure static. I didn’t even try to look for it…it was gone forever!

Or so I thought. A few weeks ago on my neighborhood’s Facebook page, someone posted a photo of a smashed-up drove, covered in dirt. She had found it in her backyard shrubs and posted it in hopes of finding the owner. Sure enough, it was mine! It had been so long, that I actually forgot what was on the memory card.

Imagine my surprise when I opened it up! The super-view angle is kind of dizzying and the audio isn’t the best, but it sure is a treat to see my friend Tom again and see all of those amazing motorcycles…
