Australian Mitch Evans Invades Japan

Following an impressive MX2 World Championship debut this season as a member of the 114 Motorsports Honda team, 21-year-old Australian Mitch Evans has been rumored to be making the switch to the factory Team HRC squad for 2020. We’re in town for the All-Japan National MX Championship series finale at Sugo Sportsland and Evans is on hand competing in the AI1 (450) class aboard a factory machine in Team HRC’s Fox Racing head to toe gear set, which seemingly confirms the rumors that have been swirling around the kid from Cairns for a few weeks now.

Evans dominated both motos in Japan. In moto one, he led every lap across the finish line and enjoyed a very healthy lead over HRC Honda’s Toshiki Tomita and 12-time All Japan MX Champion Akira Narita. In moto two, Evans didn’t start as well and had to run down Tomita, who enjoyed the lead in the early laps.
“I had a great time here in Japan,” he said. “The track was quite technical and it rewarded you for keeping your feet on the pegs. I’ve always wanted to come to Japan and was planning to come in December to go snowboarding, but getting to come and race was a cool experience.”

Neither the team not Evans would comment on the rumored switch to Team HRC Honda.
