GNCC SERIES | SNOWSHOE & TOMAHAWK ROUNDS POSTPONED

The Race Leadership Team has announced another revision to the 2020 GNCC schedule as two races will be postponed due to the COVID-19 situation. Surprisingly the next event on the calendar, The John Penton GNCC, is still slated to run on its original date in May.

The Snowshoe GNCC, which is known for a portion of the track that runs through the city streets, has been pushed from its original date in June. Instead, the series will visit the West Virginia resort on September 26-27. Per Racer Productions, those with reservations at the resort for the race will be able to re-book their accommodations in due time, an understandable situation considering the property’s decision to close for the month of May.

If that September date sounds familiar, it’s because that was the original weekend for the Tomahawk GNCC. The series has made the New York race a “TBA” as they wait for further developments in public health requirements. One silver lining to the situation is the number of weekends the series has reserved in May, June, and July from past postponements and efforts by various states to ease social distancing requirements. This will be an important detail to follow.

Below is the GNCC schedule as of April 21…

May 16-17 | TBA
May 30-31 | John Penton, OH
June 13-14 | TBA
June 27-28 | TBA
July 11-12 | TBA
July 31 | Loretta Lynn eMTB only
Sept. 12-13 | Mountaineer, WV
Sept. 26-27 | Snowshoe, WV
Oct. 10-11 | Mathews Farm, PA
Oct. 24-25 | Ironman, IN
Nov. 7-8 | TBA

WORCS | 2020 SCHEDULE UPDATE

WORCS was one of the first championships to feel the direct effect of COVID-19, as the West Coast series had to cancel their popular weekend at Lake Havasu just hours before racers and teams made their way to the waterfront. Since then the series has been on complete hold, as this past weekend was supposed to be the race in Blythe, but recent developments have resulted in an updated calendar. The event organizers intend to have round three occur on May 29-31in Mesquite, Nevada and round four on June 12-14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This plan would let them get a portion of the series complete before the hot summer months, but should that not be allowed due to public restrictions, they will consider making rounds in the latter part of the year double-headers.

As it stands the series is set to resume in just over one month’s time in Nevada, a state that just today announced a plan for phased reopening over the next few weeks.

2020 GENERAL GNCC | MOOSE RACING RECAP VIDEO

Full disclosure: I’ve never gone to a GNCC. The East Coast series is something I’ve followed for years, but getting to the other side of the country for a weekend in the woods was a tall order when stacked against our busy travel schedule for motocross races and my former West Coast base. Now in the Midwest for good, I plan to go to (and hopefully race) one of the remaining rounds to the calendar at some point this year.

My intentions were intensified after seeing this video produced by Moose Racing from the General GNCC in Georgia at the start of the season. The friendly atmosphere of the crowd, the challenging terrain, and the talent level is all on display in the edit and after it’s over, you’ll understand why so many people have bolted Bark Busters onto their bikes.
