When we saw Dean Wilson on the ground at the Monster Energy Cup last October, the first thought that came to our mind was, “Not again. Not now.” Things had been going extremely well for Wilson, as he’d inked a confirmed one-year contract with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing squad for 2020, was riding his best in years, had just won the Montreal Supercross a few weeks prior, and was newly engaged to longtime girlfriend, Sarah. We heard a little through that afternoon and evening about Wilson’s injury, a dislocated and fractured hip, but by the next week things were mostly silent and Wilson faced a long road to recovery.

Over the last few offseasons Dean has made it a point to turn off his social media accounts so that he can focus on the task at hand, which is bettering himself physically and mentally for the upcoming race season, but this past silence was a little concerning. We’d heard word that this crash and injury might have been the one that broke his spirit, as there was talk that he would give up racing and that the ketamine he was given to put his hip back in place resulted in a gnarly stay at the hospital. With no word from Wilson’s camp, we were all left to wait.

We finally heard that things were going the right way for Wilson around the middle of December, that he had spent every available hour in therapy and that his efforts were for a return to competition at Anaheim One, news that was confirmed just before the opening round to the Monster Energy Supercross Series.

Wilson has been solid on the track every step of the way, evident in his pace and results. With the series now on hold and Wilson in top shape, the always personable and social media savvy racer took the time to record a video that explains the struggles he went through after the injury, what he did to get back into shape, and his outlook on racing.
