Eli Tomac’s run to the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship came to a close at the 2019 Budds Creek Motocross. For a few weeks the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider stated that he was eager to clinch the title at the eleventh round of the series so that he could go into the final round without the weight of the situation on his shoulders, and it certainly looked possible with his run of moto wins during the middle of the season. Things lined up perfectly in the closing laps of 450 Moto Two, because Tomac maintained control up front while title rivals Marvin Musquin and Ken Roczen ran in positions that did not keep them within the key 50-point margin.

After the race was over, we caught up with Tomac to discuss his day, the championship as a whole, and how a third 450 MX title puts him in the company of Gary Jones, Tony DiStefano, and Ricky Carmichael. With 22 career overall wins in the 450 class and 44 career moto wins, Tomac is tied for fourth place with Rick Johnson, which basically cements the current racer’s status as a future Hall of Fame inductee.
