We’re all friends here, so let’s be honest. While we are massive fans of the ODI Lock-On Grip for its ease of installation, excellent feel, and rock-solid dependability, we were never big fans of the original co-branded Emig Pro Grip. Why? The larger diameter was the biggest reason (pardon the pun), as its overall size was on the large side and some of us prefer a grip that more closely resembles a stock grip’s feel, if not slightly smaller. The original Emig Pro grip was large enough to cause some of our testers arm pump, and the overall cushion offered by the grip was not exceptional, either. Then, throw in the fact that they also had EMIG emblazoned across each grip, and well…they just weren’t our favorites. Not that we are not Jeff Emig fans, mind you…it’s just that we didn’t necessarily want his name on our grips.

Enter the new Emig Pro V2 Lock-On Grip, which made its debut in early February. Emig and the ODI crew spent months – if not years – designing and redesigning the new grip, and man, we love it! The Emig Pro V2 is smaller in diameter, is softer to the touch, features some grip-grabbing traction ribs on the underside of the grip…and they look awesome! The tiny diamond pattern that makes up the bulk of the grip’s surface offers cushion for your hands and ample traction against your gloves. Instead of the large EMIG lettering in contrasting colors, the top of the grip now features Fro Daddy’s classy JE icon in the same color as the rest of the grip. It’s kind of like, you know it’s an Emig grip and you’re proud to run them, but all 14 guys to the left and right of you on the starting line don’t know, too. Perhaps the coolest part of the grip is are the three traction ribs on the underside of the grip…they feel better in your hand than a half-waffle design, and they really grab on to your fingers. Better traction on a grip equals a more relaxed hand, and they equals less arm pump and fatigue. Another feature we like are the raised end caps, which offer a bit of implied security against the sides of your palms. They are also tougher, we’ve found, and more crash resistant to damage when you take a spill.

ODI’s Lock-On design is proven and perfected. We have never encountered a slipped grip, and the simple “slip it on, tighten and forget about it” design is amazing. We learned recently that you should never doubt the clamp’s ability to keep the grip in place…on installation of a a standard pair of ODI Lock-On Grips several months ago, we snapped the ball end of our Allen wrench off inside the security bolt. When we tried to remove the grip to install our new Emig Pro V2s, it took a pair of tin snips, a hacksaw, a screwdriver, and a hammer to finally get it off the bar. We’ve also seen testing video footage of the grip mounted on a handlebar, with a 100 pound weight dangling from it for days on end. The throttle side, of course, is not a lock on, but it includes a string plastic throttle tube and multiple cams – two-stroke and four-stroke – to match every bike out there.

Simply put? We love the new Emig Pro V2 Lock-On Grip. Fro may not have hit a homerun in his first at-bat, but he has a grand slam on his hands this time around.
