Last year, Canadian motocross and snowmobile gear giant FXR Racing launched a sister brand, FTA. Much like Fox and Shift back in the day, the company wanted to offer a secondary option for consumers with a different style. Racers like Phil Nicoletti and Broc Tickle have been flying the FTA flag and in a recent conversation with Tickle, he told us that the FTA gear was even more comfortable than the original FXR. We found that hard to believe, as FXR has always been one of our favorites in terms of comfort, especially when it comes to their pants.
But what does FTA stand for, anyway? In the early days, we were told “Full Throttle Addiction,” but “Full Throttle Adrenaline” appears on FTA casual wear and some pieces of riding gear. Perhaps the word addiction has some negative connotations, but anyone who owns a dirt bike knows well how addictive they are! No matter, we’re down with the theme and wanted to try a set for ourselves! Unlike FXR, which has four different lines of riding gear, FXR has only a single option, the STYLZ line, which we would compare to the FXR Revo line.
We like the simple design of the FTA STLZ kit, so we ordered the yellow and black option, as it goes with our “corporate” SML colors. Yesterday, we spent the day riding in FTA apparel for the first time, and we came away very impressed! The pant – we believe – has a slightly different cut than the FXR pants that we love dearly, and it is nicely snug with the right amount of stretch in all the right places. Four-way stretch fabrics have become the standard in high-performance motocross pants, and the FTA pant offers no restriction and supreme comfort. The most impressive part of the pant – in our opinion – is the cut of the knees. Pre-curved in the riding position, the knees of the pant are snug but accommodate knee braces easily thanks to the stretch of the fabrics. We hate when pants are too baggy in the knee area as it makes it tougher to establish a firm grip on the bike, but the FTA pant is perfect. The leather burn panels in the knee are soft and grippy, too, elevating the level of control you have over the bike when you clamp down on it. The waist features a metal ratchet system with just the right amount of adjustment, and the pant runs true to size. The FTA Jersey, meanwhile, features an athletic cut but it’s not overly snug like some. The sides of the jersey are vented and flow a nice amount of air, and we especially like the bonded cuffs of the sleeves as they are low profile and non-binding. For $50, FTA will customize the jersey with name and number.
All told, we are very impressed with the FTA line of apparel and at the moment, the pant and jersey are on sale! The designs go from wild to mild and we’re sure there’s something to suit your tastes. Check it out at https://fxrracing.com/pages/fta
