Jorge Prado wrapped up his MX2 career in the best way possible at the 2019 MXGP of Sweden: a MX2 Moto One win and second consecutive world championship. At just 18 years old, the Spaniard has proven himself to be one of the best in the world through a dominant run in the 2019 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship (27 moto wins, 15 overall victories with 12 being 1-1 sweeps, a 100-point-plus advantage over the competition in the standings), results that made most forget about his absence at round two with a shoulder injury. Had Prado been on the track at Matterley Basin and carded more wins, who knows how much earlier he could have clinched this title.

Due to the strict eligibility rules (23-year-old age limit, a champion is allowed one year to defend before a forced move up), Prado’s time on the small-bore bike will be done at the MXGP of China. Red Bull KTM was quick to secure Prado for future seasons with a contract extension signed midway through the summer and expectations are high as he prepares for a transition to the premier MXGP division in 2020. Will the kid control the powerful 450 SX-F and become an immediate front-runner in the competitive field or will there be some growing pains in that first season? We’ll get a glimpse of what’s to come at the 2019 Motocross of Nations, which is when Prado will line up on the 450 for the first time as the leader of Team Spain.

To celebrate Prado’s back to back MX2 titles, a feat that’s only been done by two other riders in the world championship’s history, KTM produced a video of the deciding day. All eyes were on Prado at the MXGP of Sweden and the KTM race team, plus the Spanish crowd turned up the party for the teenager.
