KTM Debuts 2020 450 SX-F Factory Edition

And just as the calendar year comes to a close, KTM releases details for their limited edition motocross model, the 2020 KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition. Each year Husqvarna and KTM, two European motorcycle manufacturers that share a parent company, push out a small number of special bikes that feature updates to key components, factory team-inspired graphics, and race-ready parts. The “Editions” line allows the brands to debut new designs or technology that one can expect to come standard on bikes in the following model, and fulfills the AMA’s minimum homologation numbers so that the factory-supported racers can compete on the latest bike (the concept of the Factory Edition is what helped lure Ryan Dungey to KTM in the first place and furthered the brand’s competitive reputation).

Because KTM has produced so many all-new motorcycles in a short amount of time (their 2019 range featured frames and engine designs first seen on the 2018 Factory Edition), there appear to be no massive changes in the chassis or engine. Instead, KTM’s efforts were focused on improved handling of the 450 SX-F via new settings to the WP AER 48 fork through “a new mid-valve damping system for improved control and feedback, a 10 mm increase to the bypass slot on the air-leg for enhanced initial comfort and a new oil bypass in the outer damping-leg tube to reduce pressure peaks.” There are other components to note, including the 20-22 millimeter offset adjustable triple clamps with split clamping area and standard-issue parts from known industry brands including Akrapovic, D.I.D., and Hinson.

The complete press release from KTM is posted below. Expect to see the bike in dealership showrooms at the start of the year, but because the number of bikes produced is limited, we highly recommend you contact your preferred dealer to confirm confirmation date and price.
