Last week talk on VitalMX.com circulated that Lorenzo Locurcio had been tapped by a team in Europe for the MX2 division of the 2019 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship. While at the Daytona Supercross this past weekend, we learned from Locurcio that the story was true and that the Daytona round would be his final race of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series. Locurcio explained that he has been hired for a fill-in rider with BUD Racing Kawasaki for the rest of the international championship, as Brain Hsu is out for the rest of the season with a back injury and Brain Moreau is sidelined for a few weeks, long enough to miss the second round.

Locurcio is set to move to Europe this week and will be based in southern France with the BUD Racing team. His first race will be the 2019 MXGP of Great Britain at Matterley Basin, the second round of the series, on March 24th.

Locurcio was originally slated to run the full duration of the 250 East Coast region with support from the Legends & Heroes/Kissimmee Motorsports operation, a team that he joined in 2019 and raced the first five rounds of the season, with two twelfth place finishes being his best results (Arlington and Detroit). Per Locurcio, the team has not expressed an interest in a replacement rider. Daytona was Locurcio’s final race with the team and he ended their time together by winning the 250 LCQ and then placing thirteenth in the 250 Main Event.
