This unexpected downtime will be beneficial for a few riders, including Mitch Evans. The Team HRC rider dislocated his shoulder during the 2020 MXGP of the Netherlands, an injury that resulted in considerable damage to the rider’s right shoulder. When it became clear that the 2020 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship would go on a long hiatus, Evans caught a flight home to his native Australia for further examination.

It was determined that Evans would need to undergo arthroscopic anterior stabilization surgery, a procedure that has a two to four-month recovery time. With no racing in the immediate future (the MXGP of Russia in early June is slated to be the next round of the series, but there are concerns that will not happen due to the COVID-19 crisis), Evans made the decision to go under the knife and use the break in action as his chance for recovery.

“I’m glad to have had the surgery, and I can now get home and begin my recovery. It’s a strange situation with the season and all these postponed races but my aim is to get my shoulder feeling 100% and to get back riding and feeling comfortable on the bike again,” stated Evans in the press release.

A rookie in the MXGP class and signed to a factory team, Evans showed speed during the preseason events that occurred in Italy and is expected to be a contender for top-five and podium finishes. You can read more about Evans’ move to the class in an interview we posted during the offseason…
