Assess the section with your abilities in mind. Can you take the shortest route, one that requires throttle control through a tight section, without stalling or coming to a stop? Or should you stay with the wide-open outside, which is a little longer but allows you to carry momentum? Which will be easier and safer to do repeatedly?

Know that the track is going to change and the line will go away. Take a look at other lines when coming through the section and have an alternate ready for when your preferred path is blown out or blocked.

Watch others. This will give you a better idea of what works or doesn’t. And don’t just pay attention to the fast classes! A grizzled Vet Class rider or a developing mini biker might be able to reveal a technique or line that’s better suited for you than what the A Class expert is doing.

Don’t be afraid to try. This is especially important on practice days, when you’re free to move around the track and not worry about positions lost.
