ODI Grips originally built its brand in BMX, so it’s a natural progression into mountain biking. The patented ODI Lock-On grip technology basically changed the way grips in mountain biking were made, and it is an oft-copied system in spite of patents. Being able to put a grip on the bar and never have to worry about it slipping or twisting is a luxury, and now that same luxury is available for riders who like foam grips that were only previously available in slide-on styles.

Dubbed the Tinker Juarez Signature Dread Lock Grip after the legendary cross-country MTB racer, the Dread Lock is made of ultra soft and lightweight A.I.R.E. compound. The grip is actually tapered so that it feels narrow between your thumb and index finger, and it gets gradually thicker towards the middle before narrowing back out at the ends. Initially, the grip felt larger in our hands than the stock grips that came on our MTB, but the larger diameter sensation went away quickly. The tapered design offers more padding for your palms, and we found that the Dread Lock actually breaks in and gets softer as you ride! Firm at first, we admit that we were a little let down by the grip’s initial lack of plushness on the trail. By our third ride, though, they softened up and now they offer a ton of give and vibration and impact dampening! The underside of the grips feature a dimpled pattern for your fingers to gain traction with, and they add a bit of security when things are getting rowdy on the trail, as do the TPE bar ends that feature a slight flange that gives you a sense of security on the bars and protects against damage to the bar end when you crash.

We’ve logged over a hundred miles with our ODI Dread Lock Grips on our Specialized Stumpjumper thus far, and have no plans of replacing them anytime soon! Comfortable, secure, and plenty durable; they are a hit as far as we’re concerned!
