Race teams spent recent weeks conducting the usual promotional photoshoots with their roster of riders, staff of technicians, and all-new equipment, images that help build hype for the quickly-approaching race season.

Red Bull KTM will take on 2022 with a four-rider effort that consists of Cooper Webb, Marvin Musquin, Aaron Plessinger, and Maximus Vohland. The group has undergone several shifts in recent months, including the launch of two all-new motorcycles, staffing hires, sponsor agreements, and adjustments to the rider’s training programs.

What do you need to know about Red Bull KTM?

– Both the 250 SX-F Factory Edition and 450 SX-F Factory Edition bikes are all-new for 2022.

– This will be Cooper Webb’s third year with the team. The defending 450 SX champion will continue to work with mechanic Carlos Rivera, a career wrench who also serves as team Crew Chief, and maintained sponsorship agreements with Bell/100%/Thor/Alpinestars, but has completely split with trainer Aldon Baker. Instead, Webb has hired former Michael Byrne to serve as an advisor-technique coach and will work at the 83 Compound in Florida.

– Marvin Musquin’s latest contract with KTM is noteworthy. The Supercross-only deal will be Musquin’s twelfth year with the factory team in the US, so his experience will be instrumental during the on-track development of the new SX-F Factory Edition. But the reduced race schedule prompted Musquin to part ways with trainer Aldon Baker, and he will instead spend much of the year in California with David Vuillemin. Gear deals with Airoh/100%/Thor/Alpinestars will continue. Frankie Latham was absent from the team photoshoot, but maintains his role as Musquin’s mechanic.

– Aaron Plessinger’s looks set for the next few years: a new contract with Red Bull KTM runs through 2023 and prompted gear brands Alpinestars/100%/Thor to extend their endorsement deals. Plessinger is all-in on the KTM program, as the contract specifies that he will split time between the company’s practice facility in California or Aldon Baker’s property in Florida. Mechanic Jade Dungey will look after the number seven bike all season.

– Maximus Vohland enters his second season as a pro racer in the 250 Class and the second term of a three-year contract with Red Bull KTM. Vohland has spent much of the preseason working with the team in Southern California, but riding at the Baker’s Factory in Florida is also said to be an option. Fox Racing will now supply the rider with gear/helmet/boots, and SCOTT Sports will continue to be his goggle sponsor. Austin Watterson continues his role as the race mechanic.

Roger De Coster noted that the base setting preferred by all three 450 Class riders is very close.
