Speculation of a possible fill-in rider for Red Bull KTM has run rampant since the moment it was announced that Marvin Musquin would miss the entire 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series due to a knee injury, but we’ve recently learned that the factory team has no intentions of putting someone else on the 450 SX-F for the seventeen-round championship. 

It would be a tall order to replace Musquin at this point in the year, as there are few available riders that could match his expectations of Main Event wins and contention for the 450 SX title, so the team has decided that they will direct their efforts to the defending champion, Cooper Webb. 

Musquin has raced with KTM for more than a decade and over the summer signed a two-year contract extension, which will keep him on the factory bike until 2021. The past year has been filled with ups and downs for the veteran racer; he almost missed the start of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series due to a knee injury, won two Main Events through the season and finished third in the championship standings, won four Motos in the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and finished third in the championship standings, and suffered a knee injury in a crash during the final race of the season. After a full rehabilitation process over the offseason, Musquin started the normal preseason prep with the team in California, only to have another accident and significant damage to his knee.
