Mitchell Harrison’s departure from Rockwell Racing opened up a spot on the team, but the Yamaha-supported squad acted fast and has picked up a replacement rider for the two remaining rounds for the 250 West Coast region of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series in Gared Steinke. The deal was announced on Monday and begins this weekend at the 2019 Denver Supercross, which will put Steinke alongside teammate Bradley Lionnet aboard a YZ250F. This will be Steinke’s first professional race since the likable Northern California racer was injured at the Red Bull Straight Rhythm in 2018.

In addition to Steinke’s arrival, Rockwell Racing has revealed that the Denver race will include a nod from team sponsor Nuclear Blast Records to the band Slayer; the iconic heavy metal group is signed to the label and set to begin their final tour together in May. The tribute will include custom Leatt gear for the riders and graphics for the motorcycles.

The press release is posted in full below…

Rockwell Racing Yamaha is excited to announce the addition of Gared “Stank Dog” Steinke to the team for the final two rounds of 250 West Supercross. Gared will join current team rider Bradley Lionnet aboard an Eric Angelski-tuned 2019 Yamaha YZ250F.

“The timing of his addition couldn’t be better,” said Ryan Clark. “We have been planning a really unique co-branding promotion with the band Slayer, and Gared Steinke was a natural fit with his fun-loving attitude, rock star attitude and wide-open riding style. Team partners Leatt and Nuclear Blast records have gone above and beyond, and we couldn’t be more excited to hit the track in the Mile-High city.”

Steinke has been out of action since an injury at the Red Bull Straight Rhythm last October, but the longtime Arenacross veteran is hecka-stoked to get back on track and see all of his friends and fans. Please swing by the Rockwell Racing Yamaha pits on Saturday to root him on and snag a pic with the one and only “Stank Dog”.
