After months of deliberation and speculation, the Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/WPS/KTM team have confirmed their lineup for the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Blake Baggett returns to the team through a multi-year contract while Justin Bogle will take the second spot in a newly signed deal. This decision means that Benny Bloss, the team’s longtime second rider, will no longer have a place under the tent. The decision was made last week and announced on October 11th at the KTM race team intro.
Baggett’s spot has been secured for a while thanks to a long-running deal with the team that continues to 2021. The 2019 season was mixed for the former 250 MX champion, as he achieved his first 450 Supercross Main Event win at the 2019 Glendale Supercross and won 450 Moto One at the 2019 High Point Motocross, but dealt with a severe illness and food allergies the entire time and sat out the final rounds of the summer series as a result.
Bogle’s relationship with the team was established when the team was in need of a fill-in rider after Benny Bloss suffered a knee injury just before the start of 2019. A handful of 450 Heat Race wins and top-10 finishes in the Supercross season helped Bogle confirm a place on the squad through the remainder of the year and he logged top-10 finishes in the motos, while dealing with the effects of Epstein-Barr virus.
The two will be aboard KTM 450 SX-F motorcycles with factory KTM support for the full 29-race schedule. Since both riders are still recovering from their issues, they will sit out the upcoming 2019 Monster Energy Cup. Which leads us to Bloss…
Bloss’ ties with the team go back a few years, to his rookie season as a pro racer, and he’s shown top-five speed when healthy. The aforementioned knee injury kept Bloss out of the SX season and the first three rounds of the Nationals, but he returned at High Point and improved as the summer went on. The team will support Bloss at the 2019 Monster Energy Cup, which will serve as his last weekend with the squad.
During a conversation with team owner Forrest Butler on Friday morning, he stated that the race will allow Bloss to show the world what he’s capable of with hopes of garnering some sort of support for 2020.
