Track Tested | Rekluse TorqDrive Clutch Pack

Price: Starting at $249.95

When you think of increasing the power output of your dirt bike, the first thing that usually comes to mind is an aftermarket exhaust, followed by an aftermarket ignition, and then even motorwork. Likewise, when you think of aftermarket clutch components, you usually think of greater durability and less fade. But what about an aftermarket clutch that both increases durability and adds usable power?

The crew at Rekluse gained fame for its autoclutch systems that are popular in off-road applications (but also rapidly gaining traction in motocross with teams like Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha using them!), but one of the best-kept secrets offered by the brand is the affordable TorqDrive Clutch Pack, which slips into your bike’s stock clutch basket and provides big gains in the way your motorcycle puts the power to the ground.

The secret is in the clutch plates themselves. The fiber plates are hand-built (the fiber pads are glued to each plate by hand!) and both the fiber and metal plates are much thinner than stock. In comparison to most OEM clutch plate assemblies which feature eight fibers and seven metals, the Rekluse TorqDrive Clutch Pack utilizes a dozen fibers and 11 metal plates. In addition to allowing for better oil flow in between the plates, the design of the Rekluse system reduces clutch plate slip and transfers more power – especially down low, right off idle – to the rear wheel. Because there are more plates grabbing for traction, the lighter springs can be used and this equals a softer feel at the lever. (A Godsend for the Honda CRF450R!) For greater durability, a set of basket sleeves are used to protect the fingers of the stock clutch basket against wear from the clutch plate teeth.

The first time we tested the Rekluse TorqDrive Clutch Pack a few years ago we must admit to being a bit skeptical, but after our first lap on the bike (a 2018 Kawasaki KX450) we were blown away by the amount of torque the parts added. You don’t realize how much your clutch is slipping – even when you’re not taking a stab at the clutch lever – until you ride with a Rekluse TorqDrive Clutch Pack. Simply put; dollar for dollar, the Rekluse TorqDrive Clutch Pack is the best money we feel you can spend to improve any motocross bike, regardless of displacement.

A couple months ago, we were bench racing with our test rider Connor Ericsson (Buttery Films) and the subject of the TorqDrive Clutch Pack came up. As we were years ago, Buttery seemed skeptical so we ordered up a kit for his 2019 Honda CRF450R and installed it on his last day of riding at the now-defunct Milestone MX Park. Below are his impressions!
