Tristan Lane & SKDA’s 2023 F1 Series Graphics
Australian graphics brand SKDA tasked us with getting images of the themed kits run by Tristan Lane through the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross Championship. The F1 Series took iconic looks from the Formula 1 paddock and repurposed them for the GASGAS motorcycle, even using the appropriate fonts for the sponsorship logos on the radiator shrouds and the 90 on the number plates.
The weekly meet-ups were a great way to get to know Lane and Donald Davis, learn about the Silverback Racing program, and see the ups and downs experienced through a season. The privateer was on the cusp of making Main Events in the 450 Class through the early part of the season, but a big get-off during the Triple Crown LCQ at Arlington resulted in a severely sprained ankle that put him on the sidelines for roughly a month.
Lane rejoined the series in Glendale, and as injuries took other riders out of contention, he moved up the ladder, qualified for the last four features (East Rutherford, Nashville, Denver, Salt Lake City), and earned enough championship points to get another AMA-assigned number for 2024 (97).
The shoots only took a few minutes and added a fun, creative challenge to the weekend workload. Visiting the Next Level Racing rig when Donald was applying the graphics was the first look at what Sam and the design crew came up with, and from there, I’d scope out an area at the venue that would look unique but was close enough not to disturb their weekend routine.
