When speaking about the Yamaha YZ250F, it’s hard to not mention its impressive power plant, as it undoubtedly leads the class in that department. And although it’s hard to find negative attributes regarding the motor characteristic, we tend to yearn for a little more top-end power out of the hard hitting platform. Fortunately, Yamaha offers an affordable and easy to install modification that affects the machine just how we had hoped it would.

The GYTR Air Flow Kit is exactly what the name leads you to believe; a redesigned take on the air box that increases air flow and volume. With as advanced as motorcycles have become in the last decade, it’s humbling to experience how much of a difference a piece of foam and simple science can still make. If you’re looking for more power or a different engine characteristic out of your YZ250F or YZ450F, save the money and try out this Air Flow kit before going to more involved engine or ECU modifications. You might find just what you’re searching for with this simple refinement.

Pros

  • Installation should take 5-10 minutes if you’re familiar with your YZ250F/YZ450F.
  • GYTR includes two filters with the kit, so more rides in-between cleaning filters.
  • Once installed, the Air Flow Kit provides noticeable gains in both throttle response and top-end power.
  • Call me crazy, but I’m almost certain the exhaust tone is affected with this increased air flow. I’m convinced the YZ250F sounds more clean revving and less raspy after installation. Not to mention the added suction whispers being produced from the front of the bike.
  • The larger air box cover provides more surface area to grip at the front of the bike while cornering.

Cons

  • Be prepared to throw out your current filters, as the stock sized air-filter will not work with the new cage.
  • We suggest doing this modification before you install a new set of graphics, as you’ll need to have a new air box decal made if not… Seeing my number just in-front of my crotch made me feel pretty factory, so I’ll be placing an order with SKDA in the coming days.
