The 2019 X Games continued on Friday with two very different, but very challenging motocross competitions with QuarterPipe high air and traditional Freestyle.

QuarterPipe is a newer discipline at the event and for 2019, the format was changed from organized runs to a jam-style session that encouraged competitors to stay in their rhythm and launch as high as possible. As with anything in motocross, there were a few different techniques used by riders on the ramp. In the end, it was Corey Creed’s brazen straight-up and down style that paid off and his best jump put 32 feet six inches above the deck. Tyler Bereman took silver in the competition with a 31-feet nine-inch leap, a solid return to competition for a rider that has spent much of the past year on the sidelines with injury. Colby Raha completed the podium with a 31-feet four-inch huck early in the session, but went down hard late in the event and had to miss his last jump attempt; Raha was alright after the crash and took part in the medal ceremony.

Australian riders locked down the podium spots in Freestyle, with Rob Adelberg, Josh Sheehan, and Jackson Strong all doing incredible flip combinations in their runs. Adelberg’s runs consisted of three front flips (a front flip nac-nac at the start, a standard front flip on the center jump, a front flip no-hander) and a body varial; his first run was interrupted by a small bike issue, but he put together a much more consistent ride in run two and claimed a 92.33 score. Sheehan’s run featured elements of traditional FMX, as he mixed in old-school moves like a no-footed nac-nac whip between a perfect double backflip and one-handed seat grab backflips for a 90.00 score. Jackson Strong started his medal-winning run with a front flip no-hander and double backflip, moves he’s made seem simple in his routine, and earned an 87.33 score.

It’s ridiculous how big these guys are going! Think it’s underscored when you see the pro moto guys commenting/posting on social media about it.
