2023 AMA AMATEUR NATIONAL MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

The week of racing at Loretta Lynn’s ranch saw 1512 riders across 36 different divisons endure three motos of mud, heat, and intense competition in their pursuits of podium medals and number one plates at the 2023 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. Summer weather sent severe storms through the Appalachian valley, with lightning that caused lengthy delays during multiple days and inches of rain that turned the Tennessee topsoil into a thick bike-ruining slop, and this became a variable to many riders’ overall scores.

DAXTON BENNICK EARNS NICKY HAYDEN AMA MOTOCROSS HORIZON AWARD

A run of 1-1-1 finishes in Open Pro Sport and top-ten results for second overall in 250 Pro Sport netted Daxton Bennick the Nicky Hayden Horizon Award, a prestigious honor given to a promising rider on the cusp of going pro. Bennick raced at the Ranch twelve consecutive times and scored six titles on almost every size of motorcycle, including the 51 Limited (4-6) in 2013, 65 Limited (7-9) in 2016, 85 Limited (9-11) in 2018, 85 Limited (10-12) in 2019, and 250 B in 2022.

Bennick joined Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s development program earlier this year as a “six-month trial” and immediately claimed two wins in the Supercross Futures category, which led to a multi-year contract extension that will carry him through the first portion of his professional career. The rider and team used the Pro-Am inclusion rule, which allows for limited competition in 250 Class during the Pro Motocross Championship, and Bennick accumulated 54 points in six motos.

Bennick will finish the summer National schedule, starting this weekend at the 2023 Unadilla Motocross.
