The second half of the summertime MX Nationals got underway at the Spring Creek MX National, held at the Martin family’s amazing facility in Millville, Minnesota. A favorite course on the series for many racers, perfect track conditions greeted the fastest racers in North America. The first practice sessions looked familiar as Justin Cooper assumed his usual spot at the top of the charts in the 250 class, and Jett Lawrence quickest in the 450 class, where he has thus far turned in a perfect series with no defeats. The final sessions did yield some surprises, however. Here’s a look at the fastest lap times and results.

Honda HRC’s Hunter Lawrence waited until the final qualifying session to uncork his full potential with a 2:02.392 lap time, topping Cooper’s first-session time of 2:04.972. Cooper may have been held back from setting a quicker time in the final session by a scary crash he suffered early in the session that saw him high side violently after he washed the front end of his bike as he crested a roller in a corner. Cooper did remount and was reported to be okay for racing.

The recently returned Seth Hammaker logged the third-quickest lap time of 2:04.787 aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki.

“It’s a good start to the day,” said Lawrence. “I want to get things back on track and get to where I was before things went sideways a couple of races ago.”

When the 450s took to the track for the first session, Jett Lawrence put a huge stamp on his dominance over the rest of the 450 field by logging a lap time that was four seconds faster than anyone else. Lawrence’s Honda HRC teammate Chase Sexton came to life in the final qualifying session, however, and closed the gap, joining Lawrence in the two-minute-flat range. Lawrence responded with under two minutes left in the session, however, and went sub-two minutes with a remarkable 1:59.716 lap.  Sexton’s 2:00.038 held up for second quickest, while the Monster Energy Kawasaki duo of Adam Cianciarulo and Jason Anderson followed in third and fourth with 2:03.010 and 2:03.034 laps, respectively.

“I love this track,” said Lawrence.”It is an awesome layout and I am really looking forward to this race today.”
