Christian Craig vs. FIM

Last week, news broke that Christian Craig had his suspension from competition shortened by three months to December 31, 2019, which means that he is eligible to race at the January 4 Anaheim Supercross. The GEICO Honda rider and his wife, Paige, documented their trip to Switzerland for his arbitration hearing in this vlog…

FIM backstory for those who don’t know- On March 10th, 2018 Christian was drug tested at the Daytona Supercross. After 10.5 months from the sample date, FIM notified Christian via email that he had tested positive for a trace of Heptaminol, a low blood pressure medicine. We were absolutely blind sided. We spent the next several months trying to find out where the trace amount could have came from but because of the delay in notifying us, it was impossible. A contaminated supplement is likely the cause of the positive test but we will never know as Christian didn’t have any of the same products, almost a year later. FIM received the positive test results on April 9th, 2018 from the lab and had we been notified soon after, we are confident we could have found the source. After many failed attempts to agree on a reasonable penalty, FIM would only agree to two years from the testing date because of Christians “negligence” to what he was putting in his body. We had one last chance to reduce Christians two-year penalty and that was to face head to head at CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) in Lausanne, Switzerland. There, we were able to settle with the FIM, getting the answer we were hoping for which was a reduced penalty, allowing Christian to race on January 4th, 2020 at Angels Stadium. We cannot begin to describe the feeling we have knowing this is no longer on our shoulders. Since January 23rd, 2019, we have had this huge stress so now that we are able to close the door on it, feels unbelievable. Throughout this entire process Christian has been 100% transparent with the FIM and complied with their every request, respectfully. We would like to thank every single person who has shown Christian and our family an unbelievable amount of support during this process, even when we couldn’t share much. Your support and kind words are the reason we felt strong enough to never give up.
