Swapmoto Race Series Racer Profile

Name: Blake Winters

Age: 36

Hometown: Hawthorne, California

Classes: 30+ Novice, Vet Open

Sponsors: Some friendly help from my friends over at Thor and Pro Taper

Blake Winters has worked in and around the motocross industry for years, and it was great to see him at the West Coast Open series kickoff at Milestone MX Park. Fast off the gate, Winters nabbed a few holeshots and ran at the front of the pack in all of his motos. Though it was his first race in a while, he was using the event as a warm up for this weekend’s TransAm Vet Classic presented by Ignite CBD.

You mentioned to us earlier in conversation that this is your first race in a while. What brings you out here?

I think more to support your dad, swap, in his new venture of Swapmoto Live and try to have some fun out at a local race.

The turn out for the inaugural Swapmoto Race Series is massive, what do you think of this event so far?

I mean, so far so good, it’s really good that I’ve got early motos. Honestly, it looks like there’s a ton of people, lots of people are out here supporting his new venture. I think that’s just good for the sport to have something local and fun.

What is your motocross story? Have you been riding your whole life?

I’ve been riding for quite a while since I was younger. Only started racing when I was a little older and was able to drive myself to the races.

What keeps you coming back for more?

As long as you can keep a smile on your face and enjoy it, then keep doing it. Nothing really replacing riding motocross and the rush you get, I like getting the butterflies.

You’re on a Yamaha YZ450F, can you tell me why you chose your bike and what have you done to make it work great for you?

I chose this because I was riding 350s for a while and I know that Yamahas are bulletproof. I keep a bike for a few years and I wanted something good that would last me a long time. My suspension is from Graham, FMF pipe, and Rekluse clutch all keeping it clean and it works for me.

We’ve got the Trans Am Vet Classic coming up on March 22-24, can we count on seeing you there?

Definitely! I was there last year and it was the best race weekend I’ve had. There was about four of us there last year and I got 11 of us this year going. It’s going to be so fun. Definitely count me in, I’ll be racing then!

Besides motocross, do you have any other hobbies?

Not anymore, not with two kids. Just mountain bike, ride moto, and be a dad.

Do you think you’re ever going to get your kids out here?

Yeah, definitely. If they want to you know, I’m not going to push them into this sport because I know the bad sides of it. If they want to, they will definitely be out here!
