Shortly after Yamaha confirmed that Romain Febvre’s fractured femur would sideline the rider through the remainder of the 2019 MXGP season and Motocross of Nations, Team France announced their replacement competitor for the international event. Jordi Tixier, a member of France’s 2017 winning trio, will step in and fill the Open class role alongside MX2 racer Tom Vialle and MXGP racer Gautier Paulin.
Tixier has raced multiple rounds of the 2019 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship with the support of the KTM VHR Team and had a season-best finish of tenth overall at the 2019 MXGP of Italy two weeks ago. As a member of Team France in 2018, Tixier logged 13-30 finishes and experienced mechanical issues, but his points scored were enough to keep the French on the top step of the podium for a fifth-straight time.
Though some fans assumed Marvin Musquin or Dylan Ferrandis would be selected, the two US-based riders have previously stated they would pass on the 2019 running of the race due to the long SX-MX schedule, the logistics of the event, the sand circuit, and the need for rest in the offseason.
The 2019 Motocross of Nations will take place at the Assen TT Circuit in the Netherlands on September 29th.
