AMSOIL Swapmoto Race Series | Round Six | Glen Helen Raceway

And that’s a wrap! The 2019 AMSOIL Swapmoto West Coast Open series has officially come to an end, as we concluded the series at the legendary Glen Helen Raceway last weekend. Thanks to some cool winds and cloud coverage in the early hours on race day the weather could not have been more desirable for the West Coast Open series finale. With two perfectly prepped tracks and excellent weather conditions, we were just as anxious to get racing underway as the hundreds of racers that joined us. There isn’t much that sounds better than the roar of engines echoing off of the hills of Glen Helen. Thanks to everyone who attended a round of the AMSOIL West Coast Open series, we hope to see you all on July 14th at Milestone MX Park to kick off the Terra Firma series!

Being that last weekends AMSOIL Swapmoto race was the West Coast Open series finale, it is expected that a majority of the racers are of those who attended a previous round of the series. However, the series welcomed many new racers at Glen Helen Raceway and some of them made their appearance well known after impressive performances. One of those new racers to the series was Julian Cutajar, who sparked our curiosity after dominating every race he contended in. Julian and his number-313 Yamaha lined up in both the 25+ Intermediate and Intermediate 450F classes, where he successfully won both sets of motos. With such a performance, we highly doubt this is the first time Julian lined up behind the gate, but we must give props where they’re earned. Solid first appearance at a Swapmoto race, Julian!

It’s no question that the Pro 450F motos are the fastest races of every Swapmoto Race Series event, especially on a brutal track such as Glen Helen Raceway. Richard Taylor and Alex Ray came out to do battle at the final round of the AMSOIL West Coast Open series and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited for their races. Come first gate drop of the Pro 450F class, Alex Ray got out front early and managed to hold off Richard to snag the win in the first Moto. However, come second moto Richard Taylor got the early advantage and charged to a win in moto two, which rewarded him with the overall class victory. The two managed to put together two speedy motos full of clean battles and return to the pits with smiles on their faces. Thanks for the entertainment, boys!

As for the mini-bikes, the Open 65cc (No Beginners) class turned out to be one of the largest classes of the day, as 14 talented youngsters lined the gates prepared for battle. Though, despite a field full of great racers, Max Shane seemed to gain control of his first moto almost immediately. And after putting down some fast-laps on the brutal track, Max raced to a dominating win in the first moto. Following his success in moto one, Max managed to repeat his impressive performance and sweep the Open 65cc (No Beginners) class with two race wins. Though, his streak of success didn’t end there, as the youngster went on to grab another race win on the day in the 9-11 years 65cc class. Way to end the AMSOIL West Coast Open series on a high, Max!
