2019 THUNDER VALLEY MOTOCROSS | COMPLETE COVERAGE

Monster Energy Kawasaki has announced that Joey Savatgy will return to competition this weekend at the 2019 Thunder Valley Motocross, round three of the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Hard crashes through the end of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series had taken their toll on the first-year 450 rider (a hematoma to his thigh from a practice crash at the Las Vegas round was one of the bigger issues), but solid finishes and consistency in the middle of the season kept him ranked within the top-10 of the championship standings and he earned the 450 Rookie of the Year honors.

Since the final Supercross round, Savatgy has focused on rehabbing his leg and shoulder (it was dislocated during the Nashville race) and had not spent much time on the KX450. His first full days of riding took place last week in Florida, and he’s currently in Southern California testing with the team before this weekend’s race.

Savatgy’s success in Supercross was a major talking point to 2019 season and many are eager to see how he will fare during the summer season. He is currently signed to a one-year deal with the Monster Energy Kawasaki team and will play a part in how the paddock looks in 2020; the general consensus in the pit area is between Kawasaki or Honda.

Earlier this year we had an in-depth talk with Savatgy about his jump to the 450 class, the vibe of the factory team, his 2017 run-in with Zach Osborne, and more. If you haven’t read it already, give it a look, because it could change your perception of him.

I’d love to see more privateer profiles… “getting to know” the riders. 250 & 450. I like the story behind the riders… 722 is the perfect example 🤷‍♀️👊🏻

More privateer profiles and their rig setups! I like to think if the average fan knew how much privateers get done with how much less they get compared to factory riders we’d all enjoy the whole field even more! Looking forward to seeing how Savatgy does this summer and where he ends up next year.

Glad to see Savatgy back in action at the TVMX national. This guy has great potential in the sport and I’m interested to see where he ends up in the fall.
