Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha enters the 2024 Supercross/Pro Motocross/SuperMotocross Championship season with a massive eleven-racer effort, an all-new YZ250F, and YZ450F that’s been refined through a year of competition.

The Progressive Corporation, the largest auto insurance provider in the United States, has signed on to sponsor the 450 division.

An operation the size of Star Racing requires a lot of personnel, which includes co-owners Bobby Regan and Brad Hoffman, 450 Team Manager Jeremy Coker, 250 Team Manager Jensen Hendler, engine specialists Trevor Carmichael and Georgie Frye, suspension technician Jake Price, two semi drivers, and nearly a dozen mechanics.

Many of the changes Yamaha made to the YZ450F for 2023 have been applied to the YZ250F for 2024, but various engine and chassis components will carry over from the previous generation to the new small-bore model.

2. Cooper Webb | Mechanic – Alex Campbell

Webb returns to the bLUcRU after winning two Supercross titles in five years on orange bikes. The rider is in for all three US championships through the multi-year contract and will continue to wear products from 100%, Bell, THOR, and Alpinestars. He has been paired with Alex Campbell, a longtime Star Racing employee and championship-winning wrench, and has moved to the Tallahassee area to ride at the team’s private facility.

Webb has openly stated that the team has dialed back the powerful “Tomac Spec” engine to suit his riding style better. One noticeable difference between the three YZ450F motorcycles is Webb’s decision to use the hydraulic clutch system offered by GYTR instead of the traditional actuated configuration run by his teammates.

3. Eli Tomac | Mechanic – Josh Ellingson

Tomac has made one thing very clear: the Achilles’ injury that ended his run to the number one plate in 2023 is why he’ll be on the starting line in 2024. He is only slated for the Monster Energy Supercross Championship as of now, but if last year is any indication, there’s a chance he could commit to Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross midway through the season.

Don’t expect big shakeups from ET3 this late in his career, as mechanic Josh Ellingson will look after the motorcycle, Alpinestars/Bell/Oakley will dress the multi-time champion, and he will split time between Colorado and California.

32. Justin Cooper | Mechanic – Mikey Germain

After years in the 250 Class and a handful of promising results on the 450, Cooper will be on the big bike full-time and be one of three rookies in Supercross, Pro Motocross, and SuperMotocross. Now able to secure his own sponsors, Cooper has partnered with Alpinestars for gear/boots/helmets and Oakley for goggles. Mechanic Mikey Germain will follow the rider from one Star Racing rig to another.

31. Jordon Smith | Mechanic – Justin Hopson

A second year with Star Racing extends Smith’s time in the 250 Class. There’s little change for the veteran racer who podiumed multiple times in 2023: the team’s well-established weekly routine in Florida is minutes away from where he’s lived for nearly a decade, while close friend Justin Hopson will continue working on the motorcycle.

38. Haiden Deegan | Mechanic – Brent Duffe

The teenage sensation enters his second professional season as the defending SMX champion. Deegan’s initial deal with Star Racing runs for a few more years (through 2025), which keeps him in the team-issue kit from Alpinestars/THOR/100% and paired with career wrench Brent Duffe.

50. Enzo Lopes | Mechanic – Hunter Layton

Star Racing’s pickup of Lopes was one of the offseason’s bigger surprises, considering both had other plans, but as the Brazilian rider justified, he could not pass up the chance to compete for a championship on a factory-backed bike. A spot on the Gareth Swanepoel-led training program was part of the deal, which, for now, runs through the last round of Supercross; results will determine potential extensions. Hunter Layton will be his mechanic.

57. Nate Thrasher | Mechanic – Christian Kauffman

Thrasher enters his fourth season as a professional and part of the Star Racing. There’s little new to note for the former Main Event winner, as he is paired with mechanic Christian Kauffman and expected to contend for the title on whichever region he gets assigned by the team.

59. Daxton Bennick | Mechanic – Morgan Hunt

Wins at Supercross Futures and Loretta Lynn’s, the 2023 Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award, and a handful of solid results in the 250 Class (hence the AMA-assigned double-digit) earned Bennick a promotion to the pro ranks for 2024. The rider will compete in one region of Supercross, the whole Pro Motocross tour, and the three SMX rounds with mechanic Morgan Hunt.

61. Stilez Robertson | Mechanic – Colin Burgh

2024 will be Robertson’s second year with Star Racing and mechanic Colin Burgh. The rider added another SX podium to his career record in 2023 but missed portions of Supercross and Pro Motocross due to a broken leg.

511. Nick Romano | Mechanic – Austin Kent

It’s been a long time since Romano’s last gate drop (Unadilla 2022), but the rider kept his spot with Star Racing through last year’s knee injury and will make his Supercross debut in 2024.

Mechanic Austin Kent returns to the race circuit after spending the last few years working on Cooper Webb’s practice bikes.

15. Gavin Towers (Amateur) | Mechanic – Carter Jones

Star Racing’s “amateur to pro” development program continues with Towers in 2024. The rider will compete in Supercross Futures and the Pro Sport classes at prestigious events and aims to join the factory team later in the summer or 2025.
